Newsletter #1 June 2008

Hi, everyone.

This is the first newsletter of Cambourne Arts. I expect there will be a newsletter every month or so. If you don't want to receive them, just email me: snibgo at earthling dot net. On the other hand, if you know someone who would like to be on the list, ask them to email me.

A date for your diary: Wednesday 23 July, 6-8pm at the Hub. See below.

Cambourne Arts grew out of Cambourne Stories, an event in the Hub in February 2008, followed by a pair of open meetings in April. We decided to call the organisation "Cambourne Arts" rather than "Cambourne Stories", as we will cover all the arts, not just the narrative ones. We are a voluntary organisation.

Our aims, as listed in our constitution, are:

1. To promote learning through and about arts activities in Cambourne.

2. To organise an annual programme of participatory arts and cultural experiences for people of all ages in Cambourne.

3. To support existing provision including festivals and community celebrations in Cambourne.

We have a small Executive Committee. These are the folks who decide what Cambourne Arts will actually do: what projects we will support, and how we support them, what events will be in our programme, how we will raise and spend money, and so on. The committee is answerable to the members. Every year, the members will vote for the Executive officers (Chair, Treasurer and Secretary) and other committee members.

We are developing an exciting programme. Our first event will be an informal get-together at the Hub on Wednesday 23 July, at 6-8pm. We'll provide drinks and nibbles. Please put this in your diary, and come along. We'd like you to bring samples of your work if possible: paintings, drawings, quilts, photos, dance, music, or anything. This is an invitation to everyone interested in the arts, whether or not they actually ARE artists. Frankly, this should involve everyone in Cambourne. Is anyone NOT interested in some artform? So if you know someone who might be interested, please forward this invite. Let's see how many people we can squeeze into the Hub! All ages are welcome, but we're not providing a creche.

We'd appreciate an RSVP, especially if you want to bring a ten-ton statue! But you can just turn up on the night, if you want, preferably without the ten-ton statue.

Cheers,

Alan Gibson

P.S. Any day now, our website should go live. Mind you, I've been saying that for a few weeks now. I'll let you know when it actually happens.
